About the FAQ
When you're a houseboat resident you get asked many questions, some of them over and over again. Here's a quick list of some of the ones I can think of right now. If you have any questions, or know of some answers, please add them in.
Moorings
How much do moorings cost?
At the moment, a mooring with a boat may cost somewhere between £100 - 150k, but prices do vary lots. This is the price for a freehold mooring on the South of the river, moorings on the North side of the river (in the Surrey Yard) are rented.
How big are the moorings?
The Riverbank Moorings are 150 feet from the towpath Northwards, and vary considerably in width.
Services
Do you have mains electricity?
Indeed we do have electricity, this new technology allows us to run Eddison's amazing lightbulb, wireless', and a plethora of other things.
Do you have mains gas?
One of the houseboats (Aquarius) has mains gas, but the rest of the boats do not.
Telephone?
Yes, we've got landlines, and ADSL, but no Cable.
TV?
Yes, most of us have TV's, like most other people. We can't get cable TV/Internet/Phone, but some of us do have Sky sattelite.
The Council
Do you have to pay Council Tax?
Yes, we do have to pay council tax, we also have to pay Harbor dues, albeit at a reduced rate since 2007.
