Anzac
From Shoreham Houseboats
Anzac was a Fairmile Motor Torpedo Boat, much like Lunasea. She was moored to the East of the Footbridge, behind the Waterside/Lady Jane pub.
Her number was MTB 762, Frank Mepham and I, his wife at the time bought it from a man whose mother had lived there. This was in 1969. We moved onto the boat, which was next to the OPelican, where my parents Cathay and Charles Short lived. The Anzac was an amazing craft, we loved it, she leaked like a sieve when we moved on, we lost our moorings in the winter of 69 and made front page news on the Eveng Argus as well as getting onto the Times.
What an experience and what a life time ago it seems.
Sadly when she was sold on in about 1977, the people who bought it did not realise the bilges needed emptying and she broke her back and was scuttled. I have pictures as well as the article from the paper. They are on the wall of my home in JohnO Groats.
